Built to outlast us
Gratin is built on Evolu, an open-source sync protocol. Your recipes live on your device, not inside someone’s cloud, and you can export them to open, standard formats whenever you want. Soon Gratin itself will be open source too.
The backend is a plain, lightly configured relay. Host your own for free, or let us run it from $12 a year. It is generic enough that you could point your own apps at it too. Soon the whole thing will be open source. If Gratin went away tomorrow, your recipes would still be yours, and sync would keep working.
